The Department of Occupational Therapy trains the professionals in rehabilitation to serve the handicapped with physical and mental disorders leading to their independent lives.

The Approved Institution of World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT)
The Department sets more than 1,000 hour clinical training which satisfies the global standard through the minimum 810 hour clinical training required by Japanese Government to be occupational therapists. As one of the WFOT approved training facilities, the Department can supply more than enough clinical experience to gain solid practical capacity.
Rehabilitation Skills Learned from Actual Living Environment
The students will be engaged with clinical practice of occupational therapists active in the community to learn the real life of the handicapped. They will learn the effective occupational therapy in the real life from various perspectives.
Many Classes and Seminars Enforcing Cohesive Internship
The Department offers the two-way class of the dialogue with the handicapped in the first year, to enhance understanding of the meaning of the handicap, which enables our students to actively participate into the clinical learning.
Skill-up Opportunity for Occupational Therapists
The Department offers the opportunity for the two major nation-wide qualification; Welfare Living Coordinator (level 2&3), and Mental Health Management (level 2 & 3), in addition to the national license for occupational therapists.

Brief Description of the Course

The 1st year

The 1st year

The students learn mainly liberal arts and basic subjects. They will actually visit the clinical settings to listen to the voice of the handicapped to understand the meaning and the role of occupational therapy.

Basic Subjects
Medical Psychology, Informational Science 1 & 2, English 1 & 2, etc.
Basic Professional Subjects
Structure of Body 1 & 2 & 3, Function of Body 1 & 2 & 3, Integration of Structure and Function 1 & 2 & 3, Pathology, Rehabilitation etc.
Professional Subjects
Basic Practice of Occupational Therapy 1&2, General Occupational Therapy, Basic Occupational Therapy, Practice in Health Welfare, Clinical Practice 1.

The 2nd year

The 2nd year

The students will learn how to understand the patients in addition to the knowledge of internal medicine, orthopedics, and psychiatry. They will learn the skills in occupational therapy through the small group seminars.

Medical Ethics, Statistics 1&2, Social Security, etc.
Basic Professional Subjects
Basic Locomotive, Pathology, Internal Medicine 1 & 2, Neurology 1 & 2, Orthopedics 1 & 2, Psychiatry 1 & 2, etc.
Professional Subjects
Practical Training in Development Evaluation, Practice in Body Function Evaluation, Practice in Psychosocial Evaluation, Practice in Psychosocial Occupational Therapy, Practice in Occupational Therapy of CNS Disorders 1,Clincal Practice 2, etc.

The 3rd year

The 3rd year

The students learn essentially the core of occupational therapy. They will learn the capacity to handle various patients including the children, and the elderly through small group discussions and seminars.

Sym-medical theory, Mental Health, etc.
Professional Subjects
Community Occupational Therapy, Occupational Therapy for Children and Adolescents, Psychosocial Occupational Therapy, Seminar of Occupational Therapy to CND Disorders 2, Research in Occupational Therapy, Clinical Practice 3 & 4, etc.

The 4th year

The 4th year

The students will be actually engaged with occupational therapy under the supervision of the leaders at various clinical settings. They will also start thesis works.

Occupational therapy aims for the betterment of the living of the handicapped subjects due to various diseases. The occupational therapists are expected to have the knowledge in medicine and various knowledge in living style and applicable skills. The Department has been educating occupational therapists more than 30 years with many alumni from the Department. Please enjoy the university life together with friendly academic staff of the Department.
